Where Have I been these last few months?
That my friends, is an excellent question. Long story short; trying to figure out how to balance this season of change our family has been going through. In order to do that, some things had to be put on the back burner. Sadly this space was one of them. I am still around though! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you’ve still heard from me. Just a little less often!.
So, what sort of change have I been trying to navigate?
For starters, my own work life. I have been home all day, every day for over 12 years as a Childcare provider. A few years back I stopped enrolling children who were under school age. I knew I wanted to be able to go back to work in the future, since my own four tiny humans were all in school. Well, this school year was it. The year that ALL of the kids who come for care are in school all day.
Believe it or not, having the freedom to come and go as I please all day has not been a good thing. I have been struggling to find focus and productivity within my days. I have huge lists of projects that I want to tackle, however seem to never get to them. So, some new home projects are on the list for this weekend, and into the following weeks.
I am also working outside the home! It’s like I’m a grown up all of a sudden. I am only on call subbing for now, but the hours have been just enough to take up the bulk of my day. I’ll get there. I am working on my own self care, and increasing productivity, and hopeful that I will come up with a great routine by the New Year.
Along with my own freedom, has been the addition of Junior High into our routine. My oldest has moved on, and that has brought its own challenges to manage. Earlier wake up time, meeting new people, new class schedule, increased homework, etc. And for a child who struggles with learning, this has been a little stressful. We’re getting there though!
I volunteer quite a bit with my children’s school. I am the PTO President, and also the Committee Chair for Scouts. Both positions can be time-consuming, so just finding that flow again with the start of school was a lot this year.
The most trying of all of the changes was my husband being gone for work for the bulk of September! When the hurricane hit Texas, his company was asked to send help for disaster relief. So, off he went and left us here to figure out the new school routines, etc., alone. We worked through it though!
So, in a nutshell, that’s what’s been going on here.
Looking forward this month I am re-committing to a few self-care goals and hoping to get some home projects accomplished before the holidays. The biggest of those is that we are moving 3 of our 4 kids into different bedrooms. Send help! No seriously. The girls share a room, and have reached an age where they would like some time apart. My oldest son will be moving into their large room. My youngest daughter into his room, and we are making my office into a bedroom for my older daughter. I think it will be a better use of the space in our home for sure, just A LOT of work for this momma to get it all done for Christmas! So look for some updates on that progress to come.
I have missed connecting with you all, and hope to share more in the coming weeks! Look for lots of clean, healthy recipes for your holiday gatherings that I am working on for you. Along with some tips on how to make some extra holiday cash FAST!
